Colosseum of
Rome by Erik Wilson
I couldn't let the other people have all the fun so this is what I worked on during the contest. It is a model of the Flavian Amphitheather (the Colosseum) in Rome that was completed in 80 A.D. My model isn't finished as there is neither a back nor an interior. I ran out of both basic pieces and specialized pieces at the same time. In addition the completed model will have only 30 arches on each level whereas the real thing would have 80 arches on each level. The real colosseum would have been about three times as wide. Thus the space avavilable to the gladiators would be rather cramped as opposed to the real Colosseum which was once flooded to put on a naval battle with real ships! Building a round structure in LEGO is a challenge, each section is hinged to the next at two places and they are locked together at numerous places in the interior so that the whole thing is actually fairly sturdy. I have to give special thanks to Steve DeCraemer and Todd Lehman for getting me many of the pieces that went into this model.
